About the Event

This event will be held as a Webinar, but will be livestreamed into RAA-G01, UZH Zentrum.

“Maladaptive Daydreaming” (MD) is a suggested mental disorder in which excessive and addictive immersion in rich, elaborate fantasizing takes over one’s life and significantly impairs functioning or creates clinical-level distress. Life goals and actual relationships may suffer when one is constantly yearning to become absorbed in one’s own imagination. We will discuss MD and related concepts and disorders.

Nirit Soffer-Dudek, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist and a senior lecturer at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Department of Psychology, where she is head of the Consciousness and Psychopathology lab. Her research focuses on the links between psychopathology and altered consciousness states such as unusual dream experiences, dissociation, and daydreaming. She is also the scientific director of the International Consortium for Maladaptive Daydreaming Research (ICMDR), a milieu of collaborating researchers interested in Maladaptive Daydreaming.
